Materials & Equipment
1. Yarns oddments from previous projects – several
2. Door handle or friend to hold one end of your work
3. Pen, pencil or short stick
Method
1. Cut several lengths
of different yarns that are about 3 to 4 times the finished length you require. If you want to make the ends like tassels add
a bit of extra length to accommodate this.
Different colours and thicknesses are fine. Use whatever you think will look good with
your project.
2. Tie them together
with a knot at each end.
3. Slide one of the
knotted ends onto a door handle (the press down door handles are best – door
knobs won’t work as you have to be able to slide your cord off the handle at
the end).
4. Put your pencil, pen
or short stick in the other end and start twisting.
5. Carry on twisting
until you have a tight twist on all the yarns.
6. Hold the twisted yarn
in the middle. Take the end off the door
handle and the pencil out of the other end making sure not to let the ends go. Bring
the two ends together and keep hold of these. Then let go of the middle and the two sides of
the cord will twist around each other.
7. Knot the two new ends
together. Your cord is now complete and
can be incorporated into your project.
8. If you want the ends
of your cords to be like tassels, then tie your knots high enough above each
end of the cord to allow this. Trim the
ends so each tassel is the same length.
Tips
1. These cords end up at
least twice as thick as the individual yarns you start with as they double
up. Bear this in mind when planning your
project.
2. Don’t under twist your yarn
as the result will be disappointing.
